Asus Unveils Stunning Intel Lunar Lake Laptop: The Zenbook S 14
Intel’s highly anticipated Lunar Lake laptops are finally here, and one of the standout devices in the lineup is Asus' sleek new 2024 Zenbook S 14. Set to hit shelves later this month, this laptop packs a punch in both design and performance.
At just 1.1 centimeters thick and weighing a mere 1.2 kilograms, the Zenbook S 14 is Asus' thinnest 14-inch laptop ever, making it a dream for users who need portability without compromising on power.
While its design echoes the previous generation, the new Zenbook S 14 takes things up a notch with a unique Ceraluminum (a blend of ceramic and aluminum) outer lid. Available in two elegant shades—Scandinavian White and Zumaia Grey—it combines the smooth texture of ceramic with the toughness of aluminum, giving it both style and durability.
One of the most striking features is the intricate geometric grille above the keyboard, boasting 2,715 CNC-machined cooling vents. According to Asus, this design boosts airflow by up to 50%, ensuring optimal cooling even under its 28W TDP load. The laptop is also equipped with a sophisticated cooling system featuring an ultra-slim vapor chamber, bi-layer graphite sheet, and dual fans, doubling heat dissipation efficiency.
For audio, the Zenbook S 14 includes four high-quality speakers, and a 1080p webcam equipped with AI enhancements, Windows Hello face recognition, and noise-canceling technology for crystal-clear video calls.
Despite its slim profile, the Zenbook S 14 doesn't skimp on battery life. Its 72-watt-hour battery can reportedly last up to 27 hours when playing offline 1080p videos, making it ideal for all-day use.
The laptop’s display is unchanged from earlier models in 2024, featuring a 14-inch 16:10 2.8K 120Hz OLED touchscreen. With 500 nits of brightness, HDR support, 100% DCI-P3 color accuracy, and Pantone validation, it promises stunning visuals.
Under the hood, the Zenbook S 14 is powered by Intel’s latest Core Ultra Series 2 chipsets, with configurations reaching up to the Core Ultra 9 288V processor. Thanks to Intel’s advancements, the laptop delivers up to 48 tera operations per second (TOPS) on the NPU (neural processing unit), with a combined performance of 120 TOPS. It comes with up to 32GB of LPDDR5x memory and a 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD for lightning-fast storage.
In terms of connectivity, the laptop offers two Thunderbolt 4 USB Type-C ports, a full-size HDMI 2.1 port, a USB Type-A Gen 3.2 port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Wireless features include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
With a starting price of $1,400, the Zenbook S 14 is available for preorder starting September 6.
Asus also introduced the more affordable Vivobook S 14, which offers a slightly thicker and heavier build at 1.39 centimeters and 1.3 kilograms. Starting at $1,000, it comes with up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V CPU, Intel Arc 140V GPU, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. The 14-inch OLED display features a 1920 x 1200 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and 100% DCI-P3 color coverage. It also supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and Thunderbolt 4, while its larger 75-watt-hour battery offers longer use compared to the Zenbook.
For those seeking flexibility, convertible versions of the Vivobook will be available in 14- and 16-inch models with 360-degree hinges for versatile modes, including tent, stand, and tablet modes. These models include touch displays, Intel Core Ultra 7 processors, and Intel Arc 140V GPUs, making them ideal for users who need a versatile laptop for both work and play.
