Angela Scanlon's Journey on Strictly Come Dancing So Far

Angela Scanlon recently shared her experiences on Strictly Come Dancing, describing the journey as "mildly terrifying but really rewarding." The 39-year-old Irish presenter has stepped out of her comfort zone and has been learning various dance styles, from ballroom to the jive, throughout this series of the BBC dance competition.

In a recent performance, Angela and her partner, Carlos Gu, tackled the samba to Jennifer Lopez's "Ain't It Funny" and scored 27 points. This placed them at the bottom of the leaderboard, tied with actor Adam Thomas. Angela mentioned one of the challenges she faced was unlocking a fierce persona, saying, "Carlos kept saying, 'It is in there, we just need to find it.' So it’s being more open to all of those aspects of yourself."

She continued, "I think we wear a particular hat and we’re more comfortable in certain versions of ourselves than others. For me, a massive part of the appeal of the show was the physicality of it and getting fit after having two children, but it's also about learning things about myself. I’m really pushing myself because I’m really quite weirdly stuck in my ways and ideas about myself. So it’s been actually mildly terrifying but really rewarding to be shoved out there in an outfit that I might not necessarily choose on a Saturday night."

Angela revealed that she has been rehearsing for the show since September and is feeling "absolutely ripped." She spoke about her past relationship with her body, noting that she had been hard on herself. However, after having her daughters, she took a gentler approach to self-care. She now finds it "really lovely to be back in a space where I’m properly being pushed physically." She sees it as a confidence boost and a reminder that she's still the same person she was before having children. 0? 0? 0? 0? 0? 0?

While Angela admitted that the show has been emotionally challenging at times because she misses her children, she shared that her daughters have enjoyed watching her on screen. Her daughter Ruby even impersonated her black swan routine from Halloween week around the house. Angela's husband, Roy Horgan, has been supportive by taking on more household responsibilities and offering his opinions on her rehearsal videos.

Angela expressed her dream of making it to Blackpool week but emphasized that she's focusing on taking it one week at a time. She's determined to do her best and savor the joy of dancing in the moment, acknowledging that time flies, and whatever happens, happens.
